UCTP 2010 CENSUS PARTNERSHIP Thursday, 08 October 2009 Takahi Guaitiao (Greetings relatives)! During the 2010 Census it is very important that indigenous Taíno community members as well as other American Indian and Alaska Native community members be counted -- and counted as American Indian or Alaska Native. Individuals are counted as American Indian or Alaska Native by simply checking off the box that says “American Indian or Alaska Native” on the Census form. The box is under the question about the person’s race. For the first person in the household, it’s question 9 on the form. Read more... Haiti Earthquake: How to help!Includes a list of donate-via-text message options. MABRIKA (Welcome) to the UCTP Thursday, 26 June 2008 The United Confederation of Taino People (UCTP) was established as a Caribbean indigenous - specifically Taíno – leadership council or an “Inter-Tribal authority” inspired by ancient indigenous confederacies as well as contemporary initiatives such as the National Congress of American Indians (U.S.), the Grand Council of the Crees (Canada), COICA (Columbia), and CONFANIE (Ecuador) etc. Membership spans throughout the Greater and Lesser Antilles as well as the United States and beyond. The UCTP is dedicated to the promotion and protection of the rights, cultural heritage, and spiritual traditions of the Taíno and other Caribbean Indigenous Peoples for our present and future generations. With the historic establishment of the UCTP, the descendants of the first "American Indians" to encounter Columbus in 1492 now have a forum to present a unified voice to address the many issues concerning contemporary Indigenous Peoples throughout the Caribbean and the Diaspora. If you are Taino, Arawak, or Carib, you can become a part of this dynamic movement by affirming your Caribbean Indigenous heritage via our Taino Population Census and Inter-Tribal Registry. Just download the enrollment forms and fill them out as per the instructions included in the document package. Read more about our mission and purpose.
